In 1990, Peter Koppermann founded the sole proprietorship ontour transport service - Peter Koppermann, located at Frankfurt Airport. One vehicle and an office space of about 25m² were the working tools at the beginning. The business segment for dedicated transports was rapidly expanded with immediate great success. Due to the location at the airport, customs clearance and customs declaration were quickly added.

In 1994, the first transports to and from London began. This was a great opportunity to set up a regular service, as there was a great need for urgent shipments to the island. Initially, the transports were driven with a Sprinter-sized Van, but after a short time it was already switched to trailers and semi-trailers.

After several moves within the building to larger offices, headquarters was moved to the newly created Cargo City Süd in 1997. However, the warehouse remained north of the airport, as there was not enough space in the south.

On 8 March 1999, the sole proprietorship ontour transport service - Peter Koppermann - was renamed Gmbh.

In 2000 an office was set up in Feltham near London Heathrow Airport. Unfortunately, this had to be closed again after about 18 months due to a poor economic situation.

The company grew stronger and stronger in the beginning of the new millennium. Among other things, "ontour" became an IATA agent and thus further expanded the air freight sector. New business areas were developed, such as "On Board Courier", "Freight Charter", "Procurement Logistics" and "Value Added Logistics".

In 2006, the Management decided, due to massive lack of space, to build an own logistics facility. At the Mönchhof site, next to Frankfurt Airport, an area of approx. 5.600 m² was acquired and as the first buyer, "ontour" thus went down in the history of this industrial area "Mönchhof".

With sales of almost 10 million euros, 2007 was the strongest financial year in the company's history thitherto.

Just in time for the First January 2008, the new premises in Seinestraße were occupied. With 800m² of office and 1,000m² of storage space, eight ramp gates and an additional van ramp, they were more quick-witted than ever before. An unforgettable and successful house warming with more than 300 invited guests took place in April 2008. At the same time, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of another warehouse with over 2.000m².

2009 was the year of the crisis. For the first time, sales declined, but even in this difficult time, ontour was able to acquire a well-known customer from the aerospace sector and thus prevent major losses and the new logistics hall was completed in February. Here, an exclusive solution for a Japanese tire manufacturer was implemented and established ontour as a contract logistics company.

In 2010, the economy recovered and ontour regained its former strength. Thanks to the 24-hour service, the head office was staffed around the clock. Especially customers from the aerospace sector gratefully accepted this service, for which a separate department was created. With a share of about 15% of the total volume, "ontour" is an active logistics expert in this industry.

2011 was the year with a milestone turnover. For the first time, the 10 million euro was cracked. In times when other companies were struggling for economic survival, ontour was able to expand its business and strengthen its position on the market. Furthermore we opened an own branch in Troisdorf, near Cologne and later in the year, a logistics warehouse with storage space and own offices was occupied.

In 2012, ontour once again ventured across the English Channel to the home country of the queen and five o'clock tea. With Mr. Joern Ewert as Managing Director, the English subsidiary "ontour logistic service UK Ltd." was founded on 07th September 2012.

The UK division of ontour sits in a business complex next to London Heathrow Airport. With the help of the office and the company's own warehouse, the distribution of the line shipments could now be handled completely on-board.

At the end of 2014, our long-standing employee Nina Brandt was appointed to being Director. Ms. Brandt increasingly supported Mr. Koppermann in the management of ontour transport service GmbH.

From a sole proprietorship to an international medium-sized company in 25 years – but the success story of ontour transport service is far from over.

The best proof of this is the sales result of 2014: For the first time, more than 12 million euros were generated. The company celebrated its 25th birthday in good health and rewarded itself with further branches in Hamburg and in Grefrath. With the Hamburg location, ontour was able to establish itself in the field of short-sea transport and thus gain a further foothold on transports to and from Ireland.

In 2016, the Cologne branch moved to new larger premises and received its own storage facility with around 1.300m².

In November 2017, ontour expanded its offering in southern Germany with the opening of a branch in Nuremberg. In addition, the Hamburg site further expanded its capacities with its own warehouse and vehicles.

In 2017, ontour also opened an office in Bulgaria: With the establishment of the branch in Sofia, the company covers the transport needs in Eastern Europe and at the same time can resist the prevailing shortage of drivers.

2018 was another record year for ontour, both in terms of sales and the number of employees. More than 110 employees at the seven locations throughout Europe now contribute to the economic success of the company. As a result, ontour achieved another record turnover of around 28 million euros.
